Accessibility statement

This is a website about disability inclusion. It would be indefensible for it not to be accessible, so here is exactly what we have done.

Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across every page, and level AAA wherever it does not compromise clarity.

What we have built in

  • Display settings. Use the “Display settings” button in the header to change text size, text spacing, link underlines, contrast and animation. Your choices are saved in your browser.
  • Keyboard access. Everything works without a mouse. Focus is always visible, and a skip link jumps you straight to the main content.
  • Screen readers. Pages use real headings, landmarks and lists. Every meaningful image has a description; purely decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
  • Contrast. Every text and background pair on this site was measured, not estimated. Body text exceeds a 7:1 ratio, which is WCAG level AAA.
  • Zoom and reflow. The site works at 400% zoom in a 320 pixel-wide window with no horizontal scrolling.
  • Motion. Animation is subtle, and it is switched off automatically if your operating system requests reduced motion. You can also turn it off in Display settings.
  • No JavaScript required. Every page is fully readable and navigable with JavaScript disabled or blocked.
  • Image framing. Photographs containing wheelchairs and other mobility aids are letterboxed rather than cropped, so the framing never cuts a person’s equipment out of the picture.
  • No third-party tracking. No advertising, no analytics, no external fonts, no cookies. Nothing on this site contacts another company about you.

How we tested

Before publishing, every page was checked with:

  • the W3C markup and CSS validators, with zero errors;
  • automated accessibility testing across desktop and mobile widths, with zero violations;
  • manual keyboard traversal of every interactive element;
  • reflow testing at 320 × 256 pixels;
  • testing with JavaScript disabled;
  • Windows High Contrast Mode support via forced-colors styling.

Known limitations

  • Some documents we link to are hosted on Google Drive and were produced before this site existed. Their accessibility is not fully under our control. If you need one in an accessible format, ask us and we will send it.
  • Our blog is hosted on a third-party platform and does not use this site’s accessibility features.
